Employment Law Changes!

The Employment Rights Act 2025 is the most significant employment legislation to be implemented for a generation.  As well as multiple things changing there is also a sliding scale of things being introduced from April 2026 and well into 2027.

Take a look below to understand what is already in place and what you need to know that comes next.  Here is a quick timeline;

From April 2026

  • Day-one paternity & parental leave rights

  • Day-one statutory sick pay, no lower earnings limit

  • National Minimum & Living Wage increases

  • Sexual harassment added to whistleblowing

From January 2027

  • Unfair dismissal protection from 6 months' service

  • No cap on unfair dismissal compensation

  • Fire and rehire becomes automatically unfair

  • Updated Code of Practice due later in 2027

From October 2026

  • Harassment: third-party liability

  • Employment tribunal time limits double 

  • Trade union notification duty

  • Tipping policy consultation & review rules

Other Changes due 2027

  • Stronger pregnancy & maternity protections

  • New bereavement leave entitlement

  • Predictable hours for casual workers

  • Stricter rules on refusing flexible working
